The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects, including a Dutch national, in connection with the seizure of 866 parcels of a white powdered substance suspected to be cocaine concealed in sacks of gari at the Tema Port enclave.

The suspects, identified as Gilano Horwin, 31, John Mensah Sabah, 41, and Alhaji Iddris Haruna, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation after police intercepted a 40-foot container that was being prepared for export.

Police said the suspected narcotics, with an estimated street value of about US$6.9 million, were recovered during a search of the container. One of the suspects is alleged to have admitted the substance was cocaine and claimed ownership during questioning.

The three suspects remain in police custody to assist with investigations, while the seized substance has been sent for forensic analysis to confirm its composition.

In a separate operation on the same day, police also intercepted a taxi in the Prampram District carrying substances suspected to be Indian hemp. Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
