The Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has appointed Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto as the university’s new Vice-Chancellor, effective August 1, 2026.
The appointment was announced in an official statement issued on Friday, May 15, 2026, following a Special Meeting of the Governing Council.
Professor Aheto, who currently serves as Acting Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor of the university, is expected to officially assume the substantive role in August as part of a major leadership transition at the institution.
According to the statement, the decision was reached after deliberations by the Governing Council, which selected Professor Aheto to lead one of Ghana’s leading public universities.
The appointment comes at a time when the University of Cape Coast continues to expand its academic programmes, strengthen research activities and deepen its contribution to higher education development in Ghana.
Established in 1962, UCC is widely recognised for its excellence in teacher education, research and public service training.
The statement announcing the appointment was signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, Esq.
Professor Aheto had earlier been appointed to act as Vice-Chancellor on an interim basis following directives from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) after a decision by the Governing Council on September 25.
