The University of Ghana says it will not reduce its admission cut-off points for the 2025/2026 academic year despite the significant drop in this year’s WASSCE results.
Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Gordon Awandare stated that UG will maintain its standards and only admit students who meet the required aggregates. He advised applicants who fall short to resit their papers if they are determined to gain admission, noting that the university already rejects many qualified students each year due to limited space.
This year’s WASSCE recorded one of the poorest performances in recent years, with Core Mathematics passes falling by more than 96,000 candidates compared to 2024. The overall pass rate of 48.73% means over half of candidates missed the minimum tertiary entry requirements.
UG is currently processing awaiting-results applications and will release placement decisions in the coming weeks.
