The Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Makafui Woanyah, has called on President John Mahama to dismiss Ghana Gold Board Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi over alleged misconduct.
Mr Woanyah accused Mr Gyamfi of using insulting and demeaning language against Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who has been seeking answers over the reported loss of $1.7 billion.
Speaking at the Volta Regional NPP office in Ho, Mr Woanyah said Mr Afenyo-Markin was performing his parliamentary duty by demanding accountability from state institutions. He argued that Mr Gyamfi should have provided answers to concerns surrounding the reported loss instead of attacking the Minority Leader.
Mr Woanyah said the alleged conduct warranted disciplinary action and called for Mr Gyamfi’s removal or, at minimum, a public reprimand.
He also questioned President Mahama’s commitment to enforcing the code of conduct for government appointees, warning that failure to discipline Mr Gyamfi could undermine public confidence in the President’s leadership.
The NPP regional chairman further argued that prudent management by the Ghana Gold Board and the Bank of Ghana could have prevented the reported $1.7 billion loss. He said the funds could have been used to support the completion of schools, hospitals, roads, water systems and other infrastructure projects.
Mr Woanyah also expressed support for the Minority’s call for a comprehensive parliamentary investigation into the reported loss, saying Ghanaians deserve full transparency and accountability.
