Former Black Stars defender Samuel Kuffour has issued a stern warning to Ghana’s football authorities, stating that the national team must “fix things” to avoid a poor showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Despite finishing at the top of Group I with 25 points to secure World Cup qualification over Madagascar, Mali, Comoros, Central African Republic, and Chad, the team’s recent form has raised concerns. The Black Stars are currently enduring a four-match losing streak in international friendlies.

The decline in performance led to the sacking of head coach Otto Addo. Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz has been appointed as his successor and is scheduled to be officially unveiled on April 23.

“We cannot win against any country if we don’t fix things,” Kuffour told 3Sports.

The former Bayern Munich star criticized the team’s recent tactical approach and loss of playing style, specifically citing a recent match in the capital.

“We played Comoros here in Accra and we were scared to play, forcing ourselves to play three-back,” Kuffour said. “We lost our identity [regarding] the way we used to play. The fancy thing that people used to do [like] Polo, you feel excited but now no. [when] you’re going to the stadium, you s**t in your pants before you leave.”

Queiroz takes over with the objective of stabilizing the squad before they head into Group L of the World Cup, where Ghana will face England, Croatia, and Panama. The Black Stars are looking to advance to the knockout stages for the first time since their 2010 campaign.
