Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called for an end to what he describes as selective justice and political retaliation, insisting that the opposition supports accountability but opposes the unequal application of the law.
Speaking at the “Democracy Under Attack” demonstration on Thursday, Afenyo-Markin alleged that some Members of Parliament are being subjected to investigations over statements made on the floor of Parliament, describing the situation as an attack on democratic principles and free expression.
He urged political leaders to abandon what he called the “you do me, I do you” approach to governance, arguing that successive governments should avoid targeting political opponents and instead promote fairness and respect for the rule of law.
Afenyo-Markin also called on politicians to focus on addressing Ghana’s development challenges rather than partisan disputes, warning that continued political persecution could fuel divisions and make it harder for moderate voices to prevail in future administrations.
He maintained that the demonstration was not against the country but a call for justice, fairness and the protection of Ghana’s democracy.
