Abigail Quartey, the first Ghanaian woman to secure a world boxing title, has officially declared herself a free agent. The 29-year-old super bantamweight champion is currently seeking new management and promotional representation to oversee the upcoming chapter of her professional career.
Quartey made history in November 2024 when she defeated British boxer Sangeeta Birdi to claim the Women’s International Boxing Federation (WIBF) super bantamweight belt. Despite her status as a world champion and Ghana’s 11th world titleholder overall, she confirmed in a recent statement that she is currently without a contract.
“Hello everyone, I’m very grateful and delightful to announce to you that I’m a free agent boxer and looking for a manager and a promoter to work with,” Quartey stated. “At the moment, I don’t have a contract with any management or promotion company. I have dedicated my life to boxing and have big goals in this sport. If anyone is interested in working hand to hand with me or would like to know more information about me, please feel free to contact me.”
While her historic title victory was promoted by Alex Ntiamoah’s Box Office Sports Promotions, Quartey has not defended her championship since winning the belt. The boxer, whose rise was documented in the JoySports film “Abigail Quartey: Her Gloves, Her Glory,” indicated she is now looking for a new team to help achieve her future ambitions in the sport.
