Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya has spoken on the jollof rice controversy that followed IShowSpeed’s visit to Ghana, saying many people reacted online without knowing what really happened.

The debate erupted after the American streamer said he preferred Nigerian jollof, leading to widespread criticism over how Ghana’s jollof was presented during the livestream.

The large pot of jollof and IShowSpeed’s backflip into the cooking setup became central to the backlash, with critics arguing that the scene did not reflect Ghanaian cooking culture.

Speaking on the matter, Wode Maya, who served as IShowSpeed’s tour guide during the visit, said the streamer personally requested the large jollof pot after watching similar large-scale cooking videos online.

Wode Maya added that people often rush to conclusions without first doing background checks.
