A Women’s Premier League match between Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC and FC Savannah Ladies on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Techiman Urban Park was overshadowed by violence after referee Lovia Boadiwaa Duodo was allegedly assaulted by supporters.

The incident occurred immediately after the final whistle, leaving Duodo injured as she was escorted off the pitch amid chaotic scenes. Video footage and eyewitness reports showed fans invading the field and targeting match officials, with one FC Savannah Ladies player also sustaining injuries during the unrest.

The assault on Duodo has drawn widespread condemnation from the football community and renewed calls for improved security and crowd control measures to protect female referees, particularly during high-stakes matches.

On the pitch, FC Savannah Ladies had been leading 2-1 in stoppage time before Ampem Darkoa equalised in the 92nd minute and scored the winning goal in the fifth minute of added time. The Ghana Football Association is yet to release an official statement on the incident.
