A UK-based Ghanaian, Ade Sawyerr, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to encourage ministers to spend more time engaging with their constituents rather than attending social events.

Speaking d.uring a town hall meeting with the President in London on Sunday, May 31, Sawyerr expressed concern over what he described as the increasing visibility of government officials at social gatherings, arguing that it creates a perception that they are disconnected from the everyday challenges facing citizens.

He urged the President to direct ministers to use weekends to interact with communities and better understand the needs and concerns of the people they serve.

“Every weekend, we see on TikTok ministers at parties instead of engaging with their constituents. It does not look good, Mr President. Please encourage them to return to their communities and find out what the people of Ghana need,” he said.

While acknowledging what he described as encouraging economic indicators presented by government officials, Sawyerr noted that public perception remains an important issue.

He also praised the Ghana High Commission in the United Kingdom for organising the engagement, which provided an opportunity for members of the Ghanaian diaspora to interact directly with the President.

Sawyerr highlighted persistent flooding in Accra as one of the longstanding challenges that require greater attention from government officials.

The comments were made during a question-and-answer session at the town hall meeting, where members of the Ghanaian community in the UK shared views and recommendations on governance and national development.
