Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has issued a passionate call for national support ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, pledging that the team is fully prepared to make history and make Ghanaians proud on the global stage.

Speaking at the national team’s official send-off ceremony before departing for Canada, the 34-year-old forward highlighted the immense weight of representing the nation and urged fans to maintain their unwavering backing throughout the competition.

Ayew assumes the captaincy at a critical juncture for Ghanaian football. The Black Stars are aiming to advance to the tournament’s knockout rounds for the first time since their historic quarter-final appearance in 2010.

Addressing supporters and dignitaries at the departure event, Ayew voiced strong confidence in the squad’s resolve despite the formidable task awaiting them.

“We have three massive games for us and we want to make you guys proud, want to make Ghana proud. Obviously it’s not going to be easy but with your prayers and your support, hopefully we’ll be successful,” Ayew stated. “We want to thank everyone for your support and keep on praying for us because we’re here to make history.”

The captain’s remarks underscore the squad’s ambition as they gear up to face England, Croatia, and Panama in a highly competitive Group D.

The veteran forward heads into the World Cup in exceptional form, having served as a cornerstone of Ghana’s successful qualification run. Ayew registered 14 goal contributions, netting seven goals and delivering seven assists to help the Black Stars top Group I and secure their tournament berth.

His leadership has also manifested off the field. Ayew recently demonstrated his deep conviction in the team by humorously promising to tattoo the World Cup trophy on his back if Ghana achieves the extraordinary feat of winning the tournament.

The upcoming tournament will additionally mark a historic personal milestone for Ayew, who is poised to become the oldest player to represent Ghana at a World Cup, overtaking the record previously held by Denis Odoi.

Under the management of veteran coach Carlos Queiroz, the Black Stars have been urged to embrace the privilege of the national shirt and serve as an inspiration for future generations of Ghanaian players.

With public anticipation high, Ayew and the rest of the squad remain focused on making Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance a historic success.
