The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with the murder of University of Cape Coast (UCC) student, Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, whose death has drawn significant public attention.
The suspect, identified as Michael Mensah, was arrested on Sunday, June 15, at the Pedu Lorry Station in Cape Coast by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team following intelligence-led operations.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly picked up the deceased from the UCC hostel enclave at Ayensu Plaza on June 11 before transporting her to Hutchland Beach, where she was last seen alive.
Police said Ms Avinu’s body was later discovered, leading to a murder investigation. Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that further updates will be provided as the case progresses.
