Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Dr Bossman Asare, has formally informed the President of his intention to resign from office effective July 31, 2026.

Government Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu announced on Monday, June 15, that Dr Asare’s decision is motivated by his desire to return to academia at the University of Ghana.

He said Dr Asare has expressed gratitude to the President and the people of Ghana for the opportunity to serve in a key constitutional role, adding that the resignation marks a planned transition.

According to the Minister, the Electoral Commission is already undergoing broader leadership changes, following the retirement of another Deputy Chairperson, Samuel Tettey.

He further noted that a nominee has been submitted to the Council of State for consideration to replace Mr Tettey, while processes will later begin to appoint a successor for Dr Asare after his exit at the end of July.
