The Kristo Asafo Mission yesterday distanced itself from alleged burial and funeral activities reported at the Apostle Safo Suaye Centre in Gomoa Mpota, insisting its leadership had no involvement in the events.
In a statement, the church said the Aduana Kotoko Royal Family of Essumeja had secured a court injunction restraining all burial-related activities and called on the Police and National Security to enforce the order. The Mission expressed concern over what it described as the failure of security agencies to prevent the alleged burial despite being notified of the injunction.
The church also maintained that the Apostle Safo Suaye Centre and its Museum are legally owned by the Kristo Asafo Mission, alleging there had been attempts to gain access to the facility without authorisation. It further noted that the Ministry of the Interior had suspended the activities of the church’s internal security, leaving it unable to protect its property.
Additionally, the Mission alleged there was a plan to use a “decoy” body in place of its late founder, Nana Kwadwo Safo, during the burial. The church said it would continue to demand what it described as the founder’s actual body for what it considers a befitting burial. The allegations have not been independently verified, and former Dome-Kwabenya MP Adwoa Safo has not publicly responded to the statement .
