At least 10 recruits have been dismissed from Ghana’s security services training schools for violating a ban on mobile phones, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak has disclosed.
The affected recruits were reportedly caught secretly keeping their phones after being required to surrender the devices upon arrival at their respective training institutions.
Speaking to students of Satafiya Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi, the Minister said the dismissals were necessary to maintain discipline and ensure recruits comply with institutional rules.
He stressed that joining Ghana’s security services comes with strict responsibilities and requires a high level of discipline, warning recruits against attempts to circumvent established regulations.
Mr. Muntaka also revealed that more than 500,000 people applied during the latest security services recruitment exercise, but only about 10,000 were selected for training, highlighting the highly competitive nature of the process.
He urged prospective recruits to recognise that securing a place in the security services is an opportunity that comes with significant responsibilities and strict standards of conduct.
