The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Energy Committee, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has called for a permanent, round-the-clock security presence at the Bui Power Plant to address the growing threat posed by illegal mining activities in the area.
Mr Adomako-Mensah expressed concern that the current security arrangement at the facility is inadequate to counter the scale and intensity of galamsey operations along the banks of the Bui enclave. He warned that the limited number of security personnel deployed makes them vulnerable to being overwhelmed by illegal miners.
He urged authorities to provide additional security support to the Bui Power Authority, stressing that stronger intervention is needed to curb the menace and protect the facility. According to him, safeguarding the Bui Power Plant is critical not only to ensuring uninterrupted power generation but also to protecting the environment and vital national infrastructure.
The Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North called for swift action to prevent further disruption to the plant’s operations and to preserve the integrity of the area.
