Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Apaak, has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the alleged gang rape of a student of Osino Senior High School during a school sports festival in the Eastern Region.

Speaking in a recent interview on Thursday, February 12, Dr Apaak said the arrests were made following directives from the Minister for Education and through the Ghana Education Service, as part of efforts to address rising concerns about indiscipline in schools.

He said the suspects are assisting the police with investigations, while the victim is receiving counselling and rehabilitation support.

Dr Apaak also disclosed that investigations into a related stabbing incident at the same sports competition are ongoing.

He warned students and parents that the Ministry of Education will no longer tolerate acts of lawlessness and misconduct in schools, stressing that parents must take responsibility for their children’s behaviour.

The deputy minister said the ministry, under the leadership of Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu and with the backing of President John Mahama, remains committed to enforcing discipline and ensuring that the law takes its course in all cases of school-related violence and misconduct.
