Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has chaired a high-level meeting to review a proposed formula for the 2026 GETFund allocation framework, calling the session “focused, constructive, and forward-looking.”

The meeting drew together the Deputy Education Minister, the Chair of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, the GETFund Administrator, and Ministry of Education management to assess reforms intended to bolster funding for Ghana’s education sector.

Iddrisu described the 2026 framework as “the beginning of the reset and full operationalisation of a revised allocation formula,” saying it is designed to align with President Mahama’s broader reform agenda.

He said the proposed formula is built around greater transparency, equitable distribution, and strategic alignment with national education priorities, adding that it “strengthens efficiency, equity, and accountability in the financing of Ghana’s education sector.”

Among the notable features of the new model is a dedicated funding stream for Special Needs Education and disability support — a move the Minister said reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive education and fair resource distribution.

Iddrisu expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the deliberations, saying “the consensus reached at the meeting was strong,” and confirmed that the proposed formula is now ready to be laid before Parliament.

He added that the engagement reflects the “strong and strategic partnership” between the Ministry of Education, Parliament, and GETFund in driving what he described as President Mahama’s transformative agenda for the education sector.
