The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that Latifa Salifu, the 33-year-old trader accused of stealing a four-day-old baby at Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra, has been formally charged and will reappear in court on March 4, 2026.

According to the Dansoman Divisional Police Command, the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue. Divisional Commander Abraham Apusyine told the media on February 24 that the accused is being held to assist with concluding all aspects of the case before the next court appearance.

Salifu was earlier remanded into custody on February 20 by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit Court in Accra after being charged with one count of child stealing. Her plea was not taken, as prosecutors indicated that investigations were ongoing.

The prosecution, led by Opoku Aniagyei, requested the court to remand the accused pending the completion of investigations, a request the court granted.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, confirmed that the baby is responding well to medical treatment. She added that psychological support would be provided to the parents to help them cope with the trauma of the incident.

Police say further updates will be provided as the case progresses.
