The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has begun an indefinite nationwide strike today, Monday, March 9, in protest against delays in the implementation of its agreed conditions of service.
The industrial action is expected to disrupt operations across several government institutions, including ministries, departments, agencies and local government offices, where members of the association form a significant part of the administrative workforce.
CLOGSAG leadership says the strike follows multiple unsuccessful attempts to engage the government over the matter. The association insists that authorities have failed to address their concerns despite repeated calls for action.
The strike is proceeding despite a directive from the National Labour Commission ordering the association to suspend the planned industrial action and continue negotiations.
However, CLOGSAG has instructed its members nationwide to disregard the directive. According to the union’s Public Relations Officer, Edmund Aquaye, the association has not received any formal response from the government since issuing its strike notice last week.
He therefore urged all members of the association across the country to stay away from work as the strike takes effect.
