A joint operation by the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Immigration Service has led to the arrest of 28 foreign nationals and several landlords in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region for unlawful entry and housing violations.

The suspects were apprehended at Pakyi No.1 and Pakyi No.2 during a targeted crackdown on undocumented immigrants in the area. Authorities say the landlords were arrested for renting out properties to foreign nationals without notifying or obtaining approval from the district assembly.

District Chief Executive Prince Manu Morris warned property owners to strictly verify the immigration status of prospective tenants, stressing that accommodating undocumented individuals violates Ghanaian law.

He further indicated that many of the arrested foreigners are suspected to be involved in illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey, as well as other unlawful acts that negatively impact the reputation of Manso and nearby communities.

Mr. Morris emphasized that the operation is ongoing and forms part of a sustained effort by the district assembly and immigration authorities to clamp down on illegal settlement and related criminal activities in the area.
