A 37-year-old man has been fined GH¢2,400 by the Akim Swedru Circuit Court for making derogatory and false statements against the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda.

Emmanuel Oppong Krah, a security officer at Sentuo Oil Refinery, pleaded guilty to charges of offensive conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, publication of false news, and threat of death. He faces a three-year prison sentence if he fails to pay the fine and has also been ordered to sign a three-year bond to be of good behaviour.

The court heard that on March 14, 2026, Krah posted offensive and false claims on a WhatsApp group known as “Hot Issues,” targeting MP Alexander Akwasi Acquah. His statements included allegations of illegal electricity connections involving radio stations linked to the MP, as well as claims of bribery involving officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana.

Prosecutors said the comments spread widely within the community, causing concern and tension. A complaint was subsequently filed with the police, and investigations confirmed that the allegations were unfounded.

Krah was arrested on April 17, 2026, and later convicted on his own plea by the court, presided over by Akosua Atta Nyarko.
