Host nation Ghana concluded the 24th African Seniors Athletics Championships with a total of five medals at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The six-day continental event featured athletes from 40 countries competing for honours and records. While Team Ghana did not secure any gold medals, they finished the competition with a collection of silver and bronze medals.

In the field events, Esther Obenewaa secured Ghana’s solitary silver medal with her performance in the women’s high jump.

Ghanaian athletes also found success on the track. Florence Agyemang claimed a bronze medal in the women’s 400m event, clocking an impressive 51.87s to finish third. National record holder Alex Amankwah also earned a bronze medal for his efforts, finishing third in the men’s 800m final with a time of 1:46.18 seconds.

The nation’s relay teams capped off the medal haul in the 4x100m events. The women’s 4x100m team excelled to secure a bronze medal in their final. Meanwhile, the men’s 4x100m team, entering the competition as defending champions, secured a bronze medal after finishing behind Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria.
