An Accra court has given lawyers for Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, until Thursday, May 28, 2026, to produce any remaining witnesses in his ongoing criminal trial.

The directive was issued in the case Republic v Bernard Antwi Boasiako & 2 Others after defence counsel, Andy Appiah-Kubi, requested additional time to call more witnesses following testimony already given by Chairman Wontumi.

Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai opposed the request, arguing that the defence had previously assured the court the witnesses would be available this week but failed to present them.

He further noted that no witness statements had been filed to support another adjournment and argued that court rules permit the trial to proceed where witnesses are unavailable for cross-examination.

Despite the objection, the court granted the defence one final extension, ruling that all remaining witnesses must appear by Thursday, May 28, 2026.

The judge cautioned that failure to comply would lead the court to conclude that the defence has no further witnesses to call. The case would then move to final addresses, if any, before a judgment date is set.
