The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice has formally requested the extradition of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and Ernest Darko Akore from the United States to face corruption-related charges filed by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Attorney-General Dominic Ayine announced the move on Thursday, December 18, during the Government Accountability Series, explaining that the request followed the receipt of all required documentation and clarifications from the OSP. The two are expected to answer to a total of 78 alleged corruption and corruption-related offences.
According to Mr. Ayine, his office has completed its part of the legal process by transmitting the extradition request to U.S. authorities. He noted that the matter now lies with the United States judicial system to determine whether the legal threshold for extradition has been met.
The Attorney-General reiterated the government’s commitment to accountability, due process, and cooperation with international partners, while emphasizing respect for the legal frameworks governing extradition under both Ghanaian and U.S.
