Asante Kotoko has held  discussions with UK-born Ghanaian coach Chris Baffour-Akoto regarding their vacant permanent managerial position, according to trusted sources. The 25-time Ghana Premier League champions are searching for a long-term head coach, and Baffour-Akoto has emerged as the frontrunner for the job after recently departing Luxembourg Premier League side Titus Petange due to work permit restrictions.

Despite the breakthrough in talks, the Porcupine Warriors are reportedly not expected to rush a final decision on the appointment.

The club currently has Hamza Obeng serving as interim coach following a turbulent season marked by two managerial exits. Former head coach Karim Zito and his assistant, Prince Yaw Owusu, stepped down earlier in the year following a string of poor results. Asante Kotoko ultimately finished the season in eighth place, a performance the club labeled as “a disappointing” campaign.

Baffour-Akoto, a UEFA License A holder, built a strong reputation as one of the best young managers in the 2024/25 Division One League. During that campaign, he guided Rospak FC to a second-place finish, securing 59 points, scoring 50 goals, and winning over 18 matches. His managerial background also includes stints with Crawley U-21 and Fort William, as well as a previous role as a video assistant coach for the Ghana U-20 national team.

Insiders believe Baffour-Akoto’s tactical style is highly suited to Kotoko’s current young squad. Furthermore, his standing within the game is expected to help him effectively manage the dressing room and enhance the club’s ability to attract new player talent.
