Former Director-General of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Fred Kyei Asamoah, has called for greater investment in Ghana’s technical and vocational education sector, citing a shortage of teachers and inadequate funding for training materials.

Dr. Kyei Asamoah argued that the recruitment of about 1,000 teaching and non-teaching staff is insufficient to meet the growing needs of TVET institutions. He stressed that more resources are needed to improve staffing, infrastructure, and the supply of consumables required for practical training.

While acknowledging improvements in workshop facilities, he maintained that sustained investment is essential to equip institutions with the resources needed to produce a skilled workforce for national development.

He also urged government to strengthen Ghana’s second-cycle TVET system by adopting internationally recognised best practices to enhance the quality of technical education.
