The Kwabenya District Police Command has arrested four field officers of Bills Micro-Credit Limited following an alleged assault on a woman carrying a baby during a loan recovery attempt at Ashongman Estate.
The arrests were made on Sunday, March 15, 2026, after a video of the confrontation circulated widely on social media, triggering public outrage over the conduct of some debt recovery agents.
According to a statement from the Accra Regional Police Command, the complainant, 42-year-old Hagar Emaser, reported on March 13 that four men who identified themselves as officials of the microfinance company visited her residence demanding repayment of a loan and allegedly assaulted her during the encounter.
The suspects Denis Wornyo, Albert Amarh, Ebenezer Amartei, and Atsu Lawson are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and have provided caution statements to investigators.
The viral video shows a heated argument between the officers and the woman over an alleged GH¢300 loan. During the confrontation, one officer is seen taking the woman’s mobile phone, and she later falls to the ground while attempting to retrieve it while holding her baby.
Bills Micro-Credit Limited has since announced the immediate suspension of the officers involved, stating that the action was taken on the directive of the company’s board pending the outcome of investigations.
The Accra Regional Police Command has urged members of the public to report assault and other criminal acts to the police and advised individuals with disputes over loan transactions to pursue lawful and peaceful means of resolution.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
