Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has unveiled a $13,776,965 USD (GH¢146,268,659.80) budget to fund the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico in June 2026.
Adams made the announcement at a press briefing on Thursday, February 26, detailing planned expenditure at every stage of the tournament — from pre-competition preparations through to a potential final appearance.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
A total of $1,230,465 USD (GH¢13,063,723.90) has been set aside for pre-tournament activities, covering a FIFA camping period and four international friendly matches designed to prepare the team ahead of their opening fixture. Adams described the preparatory matches as critical to building the team’s momentum going into the group stage.
The group stage accounts for the single largest share of the budget at $6,284,000 USD (GH¢66,716,599), covering appearance fees, match bonuses, per diems for players and technical staff, and allowances for additional officials.
Should the Black Stars advance beyond the group stage, spending allocations increase progressively with each round. The Round of 32 has been budgeted at $690,000 USD (GH¢7,325,661), with no appearance fees but higher performance bonuses. That figure rises to $920,000 for the Round of 16, $1,137,500 for the quarterfinals, $1,365,000 for the semifinals, and $1,840,000 should Ghana reach the final.
An additional $310,000 USD has been reserved as honorariums for management, officials, and support staff across the duration of the tournament.
Adams confirmed that the Ghana Football Association will bear the full cost of the country’s participation in the tournament.
