Former Black Stars midfielder Hamza Mohammed has rained praise on Ghanaian winger Fatawu Issahaku, backing him as a cornerstone of Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and a player capable of reaching the legendary status of Abedi Pele.

In an interview with 3sports, Hamza described the youngster as an exceptional talent and said Ghana is fortunate to have him in its ranks.

“He [Fatawu Issahaku] is a great talent. We are just privileged to have such a talent in our team [Black Stars]. A young guy who is doing very well for himself and the country. We just pray for injury-free for him. I believe he should be the one that we should look for in the World Cup that we are going.”

The former midfielder stressed that staying fit will be central to how much Fatawu can contribute, both to his personal development and to the national team’s fortunes on the world stage.

“Fatawu and the likes are the future of the Black Stars. So just hope and pray for injury-free for him.”

Hamza went further, raising the prospect of Fatawu one day being mentioned alongside Ghana’s most celebrated footballing icon.

“And who knows? maybe he will be one of the Abedi Pele’s that we’ve never seen since the legend [Abedi] left the game.”

At club level, Fatawu has been in impressive form for Leicester City in the English Championship this season, scoring eight goals and adding seven assists to make him the club’s second-highest scorer. Despite Leicester’s mixed results, the winger has consistently been among their standout performers, troubling opposition defenses with his pace and direct style of play. His continued form will be closely watched as Ghana builds toward the summer tournament.
