The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reiterated the government’s commitment to integrating Ghana’s indigenous languages into the national education system, stressing that language is central to the country’s culture, identity and heritage.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, on Monday, January 26, 2026, Mr Iddrisu described it as “unthinkable” to oversee an education system that ignores the culture and identity of the people. He emphasised that children should be taught in ways that affirm their background and heritage.

The education minister also held discussions with the Khaya AI team, led by Dr Paul Azunre, on a potential collaboration with Google to integrate all 12 approved Ghanaian languages into the Gemini AI education tool. He described the initiative as a major step toward making technology-driven learning more inclusive, accessible and culturally relevant.

Mr Iddrisu said the engagements align with the government’s broader vision of building an education system that honours Ghana’s cultural roots while equipping learners for the future.
