Ghanaian para-athlete Hayford Addai has won a bronze medal at the 2026 Dubai World Para Athletics Grand Prix, finishing third in the men’s T47 400 metres event.
The Konongo Senior High School student recorded a time of 52.42 seconds in the race held on 12th February 2026, giving Ghana a spot on the podium in a competitive field.
The achievement is particularly notable as it came during Addai’s debut at an international championship and only days after he obtained his international classification on 6th February 2026.
The young athlete showed poise and skill in his first appearance on the world stage, indicating his potential to compete at the highest levels of para athletics.
Addai is now preparing for the 100 metres event, which he considers his preferred race and which will serve as a qualifier for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. His performance in Dubai has strengthened his resolve to succeed in future competitions.
After the race, Addai thanked the National Paralympic Committee Ghana and the Ghana Olympic Committee for supporting his athletic development.
“I am very grateful to NPC Ghana and the Ghana Olympic Committee for their support and for believing in me. This achievement is just the beginning,” he said.
The medal represents both a personal breakthrough for Addai and a positive development for Ghana’s participation in international para athletics competitions.
