A Warrant Officer Class II of the Ghana Armed Forces has been arrested in the Ashanti Region for allegedly attempting to sell high-powered firearms and ammunition to civilians.
The suspect, identified as W.O. II David Kofi Brew of the 4th Battalion in Kumasi, was arrested on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the Bekwai Shell Filling Station following an intelligence-led operation by the Ashanti South Police Intelligence Directorate (PID).
According to police, the arrest followed preliminary intelligence suggesting the officer was involved in the illicit supply of weapons to criminal elements in Obuasi and surrounding communities. Undercover operatives reportedly engaged the suspect on December 15, during which he allegedly indicated his ability to supply firearms, including M16 and G3 rifles and pistols, and quoted prices for the weapons.
Police said the suspect was arrested the following day while attempting to hand over the firearms to an undercover agent. Items retrieved included a TMM 22 assault rifle with ammunition, an Ash Taurus GX2 pistol, magazines, and a large quantity of rounds.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to selling firearms within Obuasi and nearby areas. He is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while steps are being taken to inform his military superiors.
Police say investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals linked to the alleged arms trafficking network.
