Ghana international Mohammed Kudus is facing a race against time to be fit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering a fresh setback in his recovery from a long-term injury.
The Tottenham Hotspur forward was originally sidelined in January after sustaining a serious quad tendon injury during a Premier League fixture against Sunderland. While Kudus was expected to return to action this month, he has reportedly aggravated the injury, casting doubt on his availability for the remainder of the club season and Ghana’s upcoming World Cup campaign in June.
The setback follows optimistic comments made last month by Tottenham’s former interim head coach, Igor Tudor, who had indicated the 25-year-old was nearing a return to the first-team squad.
“So we have these three weeks after the game on Sunday. He will probably do some part of the things with the squad maybe 10 days [after the break],” Tudor told football.london at the time. “I don’t know, I’m not sure. We need to check, but he is progressing very well. Already a little bit with the ball.”
Despite those reports of progress, Kudus has not returned to team training since the interview. While the specific details of the latest complication have not been disclosed, the forward is now expected to miss the rest of the European season.
Prior to his injury, Kudus had recorded nine goal involvements across 24 appearances in the Premier League and Champions League for Spurs.
