The Ghana Police Service has arrested seven suspects in connection with a highway robbery attack on a member of the Council of State that occurred in July 2025, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, has announced.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, January 29, COP Donkor said the arrests were made through intelligence-led operations following the robbery on the Tamale–Buipe Highway, where the victim was attacked by armed men and robbed of personal items including mobile phones, cash, a laptop and wristwatches.

According to the CID boss, investigations led to the arrest of Rashida Yussif in Salaga on January 11, 2026, after an iPhone linked to the robbery was traced to her. Further arrests followed, including a mobile phone shop attendant and other suspects connected through the sale of the stolen phone.

Police said a search conducted in the room of one of the suspects, Aminu Zebrilla, also known as Bedman, uncovered firearms, ammunition, mobile phones, motorbikes and other items believed to be linked to the robbery. Investigations revealed that Zebrilla is an ex-convict who was jailed for robbery in 2012.

Two additional suspects were later arrested from their hideout in Tamale. COP Donkor said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other suspects believed to be on the run and to retrieve a weapon still unaccounted for.
