The Government of Ghana has announced that French President Emmanuel Macron will participate in the upcoming Next Steps Conference on Reparatory Justice in Accra.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, via social media on Tuesday.

The conference, which will be hosted by President John Dramani Mahama, is set to deepen international conversations on reparatory justice, particularly in relation to historical injustices stemming from the transatlantic enslavement of Africans.

According to the Foreign Affairs Minister, President Macron is expected to engage in constructive dialogue on historical injustices against Africans and articulate France’s perspective and commitments regarding reparations.

The conference follows the recent passage of a Ghana-sponsored resolution at the United Nations recognising transatlantic enslavement as the gravest crime against humanity. The resolution has reignited global debate on reparations and historical responsibility.

The Accra summit is anticipated to convene international leaders, policymakers and key stakeholders to discuss actionable steps toward addressing historical injustices and strengthening justice-oriented global cooperation.
