The government has declared Friday, July 3, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s Republic Day celebrations.

The decision follows a policy to move public holidays that fall in the middle of the week to Friday, while those falling on weekends are observed on the following Monday. Since Republic Day falls on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the holiday will instead be observed on Friday, July 3.

The declaration was made by President John Dramani Mahama through an Executive Instrument in accordance with the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), as amended.

The Interior Ministry stated that the holiday should be observed nationwide, allowing citizens to commemorate Republic Day on the designated date.
