Contractors working on the ultra-modern Cardiology Centre at the Tamale Teaching Hospital have assured the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) that the project remains on schedule for completion by the end of August.
The assurance was given during a joint inspection of the project by GMTF Administrator Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku and the hospital’s management, who assessed construction progress. Project engineers said work is ongoing around the clock to meet the completion deadline, adding that significant progress has already been made.
Once completed, the Cardiology Centre will serve as a major referral hub for specialised heart care in Northern Ghana, reducing the need for patients to travel to Accra or Kumasi for advanced cardiac diagnosis and treatment. The facility will provide comprehensive cardiovascular services, including advanced diagnostic and interventional procedures.
The Centre is also expected to benefit patients from the Savannah, North East, Upper East, Upper West and parts of the Bono East regions. Hospital management described the project as a major boost to specialist healthcare, with the potential to improve emergency cardiac care, enhance patient outcomes and reduce preventable deaths from cardiovascular diseases.
