The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured petroleum operators that its regulatory inspections are aimed at protecting investments and promoting safety rather than punishing businesses.

Speaking at the Ghana International Petroleum Conference, NPA Chief Executive Officer Godwin Edudzi Tameklo said routine inspections of fuel stations and other petroleum facilities are designed to identify safety and operational risks early, helping operators avoid accidents, financial losses and reputational damage while ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

Mr. Tameklo urged industry players to cooperate with inspectors, stressing that effective regulation serves the interests of both businesses and consumers. He noted that accidents or regulatory breaches could result in significant financial and operational setbacks, making preventive oversight essential.

The NPA Chief Executive also assured stakeholders that the Authority would maintain a balanced enforcement approach focused on supporting sustainable business growth while safeguarding consumer interests.

His remarks come amid renewed discussions on strengthening regulatory compliance and operational safety in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector, with the NPA reiterating that proactive regulation is key to protecting investments, improving industry standards and ensuring a safe and reliable petroleum supply chain.
