The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has deployed advanced security screening technology at Accra International Airport to improve passenger safety and streamline the screening process. The new equipment includes 3D-CT scanners, body scanners, shoe analysers and other modern security systems designed to make inspections faster and more efficient.
The upgrade forms part of the government’s broader efforts to modernise Ghana’s aviation infrastructure and strengthen airport security. President John Dramani Mahama first announced the procurement of the equipment during the launch of the E-Visa System, highlighting the initiative as a key step toward positioning Ghana as a leading aviation hub in West Africa.
The new 3D-CT scanners are expected to significantly reduce screening times by allowing passengers to keep certain items inside their carry-on luggage during security checks, helping to ease congestion and improve the overall travel experience. GACL says the deployment aligns with international aviation safety standards and reflects its commitment to using technology-driven solutions to enhance services across Ghana’s airports.
