Ghanaian swimmer Abeku Jackson has secured a place in the semi-finals of the men’s 50m butterfly event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Jackson registered a time of 24.11 seconds in Heat 7, beating his entry time of 24.22 seconds to seal automatic qualification. He finished fourth in his heat and ranked 14th overall among 70 competitors, maintaining Ghana’s presence in the pool.
Joshua Liendo of Canada led the overall standings in the heats with a time of 23.66 seconds, ahead of Australia’s Cam McEvoy and England’s Jacob Peters, who both clocked 23.74 seconds.
Jackson is set to compete in the semi-finals tonight at 20:20 BST as he aims to secure a spot in the final.
In contrast, compatriot Unilez Takyi saw her campaign in the women’s 50m freestyle come to an end after failing to advance to the semi-finals. Takyi finished seventh in her heat with a time of 27.13 seconds.
Halle Harris of Sierra Leone took first place in that heat with 26.01 seconds, followed by the Isle of Man’s Ella Justice in 26.38 seconds and Grenada’s Tilly Collymore in 26.83 seconds.
