The Water Resources Commission (WRC) has warned that a controlled spillage of the Bagré Dam in Burkina Faso could begin on Tuesday, August 11, if rising water levels persist.
According to the Commission, the alert follows information from the dam’s operators, SONABEL, indicating that the reservoir was at 232.93 metres and 62.77 percent full as of August 4. Controlled spillage is expected to commence if the water level reaches 234.00 metres to ensure the dam’s safe operation.
The WRC has urged residents living along the White Volta River and other flood-prone communities to remain alert and follow safety directives issued by Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, as well as other relevant authorities.
The Commission said it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
