Black Princesses captain Linda Owusu Ansah has acknowledged that Ghana faces a demanding group stage campaign at the upcoming 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Ghana secured a spot in their eighth consecutive edition of the tournament, with Owusu Ansah scoring the decisive qualification goal against Uganda in Kampala.
Reflecting on the tournament draw, the team captain recognized the strength of their group opponents.
“I won’t lie; we are in a very tough group. France, Korea Republic and Ecuador are all great football nations, but we will try our best to make it out of the group stages,” she told FIFA.
She added, “We know it will be a huge challenge for us, but we are Ghana, and we always love challenges.”
Owusu Ansah enters the youth tournament following her recent stint with the senior national team, the Black Queens, where she featured in their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign, reaching the quarterfinals and securing a 2027 Women’s World Cup playoff berth.
”I feel like taking part of the WAFCON will help in my World Cup preparation in the sense that I will be able to train and play with very experienced players and learn a lot from them, so coming into the U-20 World Cup, I will be coming with a little bit of experience,” she noted.
Head coach Charles Sampson and the Black Princesses will begin their World Cup group stage against Ecuador on September 6, 2026, before facing the Korea Republic and France in their subsequent group matches.
