Ghanaian forward Jerry Afriyie has completed a permanent transfer from Saudi Pro League club Al Qadsiah to Belgian top-flight side KRC Genk, signing a long-term contract through 2031.
The 19-year-old attacker, who developed at Thoughts FC in Ghana before moving to Al Qadsiah in January 2025, spent the previous season on loan at La Louvière, where he recorded five goals and one assist.
Afriyie’s rise includes winning the 2025 Odartey Lamptey Future Star Award as Ghana’s top young talent, following a standout period as the leading scorer for the national U20 team. His performances earned him a debut call-up to the senior Black Stars squad for an international friendly earlier this year.
Before concluding the transfer, Afriyie completed pre-season training with Al Qadsiah alongside fellow Ghanaian and former Genk player Christopher Bonsu Baah.
Genk’s Head of Football, Dimitri de Condé, praised the teenager’s work ethic and dynamic skill set.
“Jerry is a player with an incredible amount of energy,” said Head of Football Dimitri de Condé. “Whatever he does, he gives 100%. That fits perfectly with the intensity we want to see at KRC Genk.
“At the same time, the club believes there is still plenty of room for Afriyie to develop.
“He has a lot of natural ability and possesses qualities that are crucial in the modern game: pace, explosiveness, runs in behind, and the ability to cause problems in one-v-one situations,” De Condé continued. “He is also still very young, and we will provide him with the right environment to continue his development. We firmly believe he will be an excellent addition to the current squad, both now and for the future.”
The young forward could make his official debut for Genk in their upcoming Belgian Jupiler Pro League fixture against Antwerp this weekend.
