The Accra High Court has issued an injunction halting the planned weekend burial of highlife legend Daddy Lumba, following a complaint by his maternal family. The ruling restrains family head Kofi Owusu from proceeding with the funeral and prohibits Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the late musician’s body until the case is fully determined.

The court found evidence that the immediate family had been sidelined in the funeral arrangements and emphasized that any burial plans must involve them. Though acknowledging that the delay could raise costs, the judge stressed the importance of due process.

The first respondent has been ordered to convene a stakeholder meeting within three weeks to agree on a new burial date. Additionally, all funds raised for the funeral must be separated from accounts of the Daddy Lumba Memorial Foundation. The dispute stems from disagreements over funeral leadership and fund management following Lumba’s death on July 26, 2025, highlighting longstanding Akan customs that grant the maternal lineage significant authority in burial rites.
