Ghanaian rapper and singer Kwesi Arthur has publicly accused his former management company, Ground Up Chale, and its CEO, Glen Boateng, of attempting to claim ownership over his creative assets and personal image.

In a statement shared on social media on January 21, 2026, the artiste alleged that the label is demanding US$150,000 from him to use images of himself for an upcoming independent project. He claimed Ground Up Chale asserts ownership over his image, music catalogue and brand dating back to 2016, despite him having no professional relationship with the company since the release of his debut album Son of Jacob in 2022.

Kwesi Arthur further alleged that he received no financial benefits or royalties from his music during his time with the label and has faced ongoing threats, manipulation and attempts to block his independent releases. He said the dispute has taken a toll on his mental health and cautioned that Ground Up Chale and its CEO should be held responsible if anything happens to him or his family.

The dispute is believed to stem from unresolved contractual or rights issues following his exit from the label. Fellow rapper Medikal has publicly expressed support for Kwesi Arthur, urging the Ground Up team to leave him alone.

The allegations have sparked broader discussions about exploitative contracts and power imbalances within Ghana’s music industry. Ground Up Chale and its management have not yet responded to the claims.
