Ghanaian music legend, guitarist and composer Ebo Taylor has died at the age of 90. The acclaimed musician passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, sparking an outpouring of tributes from fans, musicians and cultural institutions in Ghana and across the world.

News of his death was announced on Instagram by organisers of EBOFEST, a global celebration recently held in his honour. In a tribute, they described him as a “musical titan” and one of Africa’s greatest cultural exports.

Ebo Taylor was widely regarded as a pioneer of modern Ghanaian music, celebrated for his distinctive fusion of traditional Fante rhythms, highlife and American jazz. His innovative sound helped shape generations of African musicians and influenced the global Afro-jazz and highlife movement.

The organisers noted that his passing came shortly after celebrations marking his 90th birthday and the successful staging of EBOFEST in Ghana, which brought admirers from around the world to honour his legacy.

Over a career spanning several decades, Ebo Taylor earned international recognition for blending African musical traditions with global influences while preserving a strong Ghanaian identity.
