The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has warned of widespread transport fare increases if VIP Jeoun Transport goes ahead with a reported 25% hike without government approval. Abass Imoro, Head of Industrial Relations at the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, said such a move would disrupt the long-standing consultative process between transport operators and the Ministry of Transport Ghana.

Imoro stressed that fare adjustments are typically negotiated with the government, taking into account economic factors such as wages and cost of living. He warned that allowing VIP Jeoun to independently impose a fare increase could prompt other operators across the country to set their own prices without regulation.

He further criticized the Ministry for what he described as weak oversight, arguing that permitting a single company to act unilaterally could lead to inconsistent fares nationwide and increase the financial burden on commuters. The GPRTU is urging the Ministry to intervene and ensure that any fare adjustments follow the established consultative framework.
