Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced that a new head coach for the Black Stars will be named by Monday, April 13, 2026, as the selection process reaches its conclusion.
The Minister indicated that negotiations with shortlisted candidates are in their final stages, with only a few remaining discussions to be held before the official announcement.
“Hopefully, if by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, latest by Monday, we should be able to announce our new coach. We’ve come very far. They still have just a few more to talk to,” Adams stated during an appearance on Channel One TV. “Between Friday and Monday, we should be able to let you know.”
The vacancy follows the exit of Otto Addo, which left the national team without a technical lead ahead of the 2026 World Cup in North America. Several prominent managers, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos, have been linked to the position.
Government and football authorities are prioritizing a swift appointment to ensure the team is prepared for a difficult World Cup group featuring England, Croatia, and Panama. The incoming coach is expected to take charge by May, using scheduled international friendlies against Wales and Mexico to assess the squad and begin preparations for the tournament.
