The Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem Sai, has dismissed allegations by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame that former National Food Buffer Stock Company CEO Abdul-Wahab Hanan was denied access to legal counsel following his re-arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Speaking to journalists at the High Court in Accra on Thursday, May 7, Justice Srem Sai described the claims as baseless and misleading. He criticised Mr Dame for addressing the issue through the media instead of engaging EOCO officials directly through established legal channels.
According to the Deputy Attorney-General, public commentary on the matter risks creating misconceptions about due process and undermining institutional procedures for legal redress.
The controversy follows the re-arrest of Abdul-Wahab Hanan and his wife, Faiza Sayyid Wuni, shortly after the Office of the Attorney-General dropped all charges against them, citing fresh evidence in the case.
Lawyers for the couple, led by Godfred Yeboah Dame, had earlier claimed they were unable to reach their clients more than 24 hours after the arrest. Dame alleged that legal representatives at EOCO headquarters had been denied access to the accused persons.
